MATILDA
Born March 21, Matilda is lovely girl who is very friendly but a bit giddy full of energy and loves to play.
She has lived with a small dog and they were great friends. Issues began to escalate around food. We have observed her wanting to get treats out of your hand but she listens and this is improving fast. This though is with humans and not around another dog.
To Matilda, everything is exciting and interesting but she is wanting to learn and listen. After just a few tries, she was taking things nicely from palm of hand but snatched when using fingers,
We feel if the right kind of calm, positive training is put in she will come along leaps and bounds also being told gently when things are not acceptable like wanting to play with the lead.
Matilda is very interested in exploring everything when out and about. She does need a lot more lead work.
Matilda has lived with teenagers, however due to needing additional training, we feel a home with young children is not a good idea. A home with teenagers that are large breed aware would be a better fit for Matilda; as long as the training that has already been implemented, is continued. This is to help Matilda know what is acceptable and not.
She is crate trained and goes in a crate when left alone as she has been known to chew if left on her own for any length of time when not crated.
Whilst in foster, Matilda has been sleeping through the night, with no barking or crying and this has been from night one. She is clean in the house. Matilda's foster has described her as a dozy doughnut who is very affectionate and is very good around elderly people. an be a bit of a kangaroo still when seeing people in the street as she wants to say hello to everyone
Her lead walking is getting better as when she arrived, she did not know how to walk on lead and was very strong. This is improving daily.
Matilda loves her teddy and does enjoy walking around with it. She is also known to get hold of dressing gown and walk around with you with it in her mouth.
Has now learnt the following words as part of her training:
- Out (for going to garden)
- In (come in from garden)
- Bed (when asked to go to it)
- Wait (to stand still)
- Sits when food ready does not touch until told go on
- Gently (so not to snatch food from hands)
