PEGGY (WAS PEBBLES)

Beautiful Peggy came into the care of LBDR in late 2021, after being taken to the vets to be put to sleep.

This little lady was unable to walk and was severely incontinent. But as a rescue, we could see that Peggy is a bundle of fun and mischief and well worth giving the chance of a long happy life.

She does require daily bathing. We also use barrier cream on her bottom. Peggy does wear pads (knickers) now but this could be a 10 plus year commitment to her.

Her legs seem to be getting stronger and she is fast when she runs. Peggy is in foster now and is happy playing with the resident dogs .

Peggy kept getting urinary infections and it was decided to take some of her tail off as it was sticking up her bottom.

She is being treated by our vets at Mote Mark Veterinary practice in Maidstone
They love her there and she enjoys going to see them and getting all the fuss and attention.

Peggy has been to the Royal Veterinary college for an MRI to see if any improvements can be made with her health. So far we have spent over £5000 on Peggy and now she could do with an operation on her spine which we are looking at another £2000.

She has recently been diagnosed with Addisons Disese and will be on steroids for the rest of her life now, and will continue to be supported by the rescue.

More information on Addison’s disease... scientifically known as hypoadrenocorticism, is a disease with serious consequences for dogs, although fortunately with proper treatment, dogs diagnosed with Addison’s disease are expected to have normal lifespans. Addison’s disease occurs when the adrenal glands fail to produce the hormones that they are in charge of in the body.

The most important hormones produced by the adrenal glands are steroids, particularly aldosterone and cortisol. These steroids play a large role in regulating your dog’s internal organs and body systems. Without them, your dog’s body deteriorates, leading to serious complications and even death.
