ROLO
10/10/23 UPDATE
His manners in the house is getting really good, he no longer counter surfs, he sits quietly in his bed when we eat. He doesn’t bark at the door anymore and he’s getting better at not jumping at us when we walk through the door so like I said he’s getting better everyday as he’s really clever.
We are doing some outdoor training this weekend. He’s ok with ignoring dogs if they’re on the other side of the road or further away, it’s just when they are near he really wants to play but he is aware when a dog doesn’t want to play and he’s happy to walk past with a tug of the lead.
Rolo currently jumps up on people when saying hello. I am in fact working on this and we’ve arranged some training sessions. Also he gets over excitable when meeting other dogs and can sometimes be a struggle to keep him calm, again I am working. Basically he’s a very large (currently 35kg) excitable puppy.
He is getting better by the day but still needs more training. Oh and he will chase cats, not aggressively, just playfully, again we are working on this.
Rolo came to us via a pound.
This is what the pound had to say about him:
Rolo is young male, estimated to be around 10 months old. Seems to be in good health, not underweight or showing any signs of illness. Has tested well on and off lead with dogs in the paddock today.
Got told off by an older dog for being too enthusiastic, but listened and didn't pester. Hasn't shown any signs of kennel guarding or food aggression. Very playful and goofy
This is what his foster has to say about Rolo:
Rolo is a lovable goofy pup who loves his cuddles, toys and treats. Knows his basic commands like sit and paw and he takes his treats nicely, no snatching.
As he’s still young he just needs to learn a few manners like not jumping up to greet everyone he sees. So far loves people and wants to play with other dogs but also ignores dogs that bark at him.
Curious of our cat but not in an aggressive way. Fully house trained and will paw at the door to let you know when he needs to go. Not possessive over food and I have been able to take chews and food out of his mouth.
Doesn’t bark unless there is someone at the door. Will follow you around the house but has been left alone with no issues.
He does counter surf and thinks everything is a chew toy but he’s learning what he can and can’t have and is a quick learner.
Did pull on walks initially but we now use a dogmatic which he got used to within an hour and now will walk nicely.
Only thing we have found is he does get anxious in large open spaces like the park, so we’ve been just street walking with him which he is fine with.
Overall a lovely pup and will make a wonderful sofa companion.
