ROXY

Roxy came into us at 10 months of age, back in May 21 from another rescue.

We have been working with Roxy and testing her in many situations in this time we even had her in two foster homes to see if her behaviour changed at all. The other rescue advised that there were incidents in her home where she did bite the owners and was quite uncontrollable.

When we first met Roxy, we noticed a bad limp and she was obviously in pain. Even through all of this, she still presented as a friendly girl who wanted to say hello to us all and also wanting to meet the other dogs.

She needed basic training and also how to behave on the lead. We considered her to be overweight and we worked on this slowly with diet and exercise but paying attention to her limp with the exercise. Roxy was very high energy and the limp was not hindering her.

When in foster, they had to take something out of her mouth and she let us do it without even stiffening up, let alone a wall eye or growl.

She has shown herself to be a lovely friendly dog but there has been a couple of issues normally with something she classes as high value that is not hers, but these have been rare. One was the open bag of dog food which she refused to move from for a long time, foster worked on hand feeding her which worked well. The other occasion was when she came across a dead rabbit which she really did not want to give up. These are being worked on and she is learning well but home needs to be mindful that this will need continued work, she has no issues around her food bowl or treats or toys.

She very quickly picked up commands but like all bullies it's her that decides which and when she's going to obey them.

Only big thing is, being a puppy she wants to play. Being a bulldog means, tanking into you as fast as she can then, having knocked the wind out of you, jumping at you. This was being worked on whilst in foster and now that she is back in the rescue.

Happy to go into her crate for a sleep, on her own, with the door open.
